Freek Mayenburg is 75 jaar en opgegroeid in Haastrecht. Hij heeft zijn hele leven al van jongs af aan rondgezworven in de graslandpolders rond Haastrecht/Gouda en het Reeuwijkse Plassengebied. Met als grote hobby het observeren van vogels, in het bijzonder weidevogels.
Kon later van zijn hobby zijn werk maken. Heeft als inventarisatie-boswachter ruim 35 jaar bij Staatsbosbeheer gewerkt in de Provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland en Utrecht. Kent het Groene Hart bij wijze van spreken als zijn broekzak, want dit was vooral zijn werkgebied. Binnen zijn werk bij Staatsbosbeheer heeft hij veel met weidevogels en het beheer van graslandreservaten in Zuid-Holland te maken gehad. Freek is al geruime tijd met pensioen maar gaat nog vrijwel dagelijks het veld in. Met het opzetten van deze website kan hij zijn belevenissen en ervaringen uit het veld wat breder wegzetten, zodat ook anderen deelgenoot kunnen zijn van het unieke karakter van het Groene Hart van de Reeuwijkse Plassen en het polderlandschap rond Gouda. Op de website komt ook de rijke cultuurhistorie van het Groene Hart binnen West-Nederland ruim aan de orde.
